Carya ovata
Shagbark Hickory gets its name from the striking peeling bark that curls outwards on the ends and giving the tree character. Native to North America, they are related to the pecan tree. Shagbark Hickory gives off an aromatic smoke when burned, making it prized for meat-curing.
